As Delhi gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, security arrangements in the national capital have been significantly tightened to ensure a peaceful and interference-free voting process. Delhi Police, in collaboration with paramilitary forces, has implemented a range of security measures, including flag marches, extensive patrolling, and advanced surveillance technologies.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South East, Ravi Kumar Singh, stated, “The election campaigns have officially ended as of today. We have intensified our flag marches and patrols to ensure no disruptions occur during the election process.”
Additional DCP Rohini, Vishnu Kumar, echoed this sentiment, saying, “Flag marches were conducted in preparation for the Delhi Assembly elections. The police are patrolling the area, spreading the message to stay calm and actively participate by casting your vote.”
Extensive Security Deployment
Delhi Police have deployed a massive force comprising 35,626 police personnel, along with 6,525 trainees, to maintain law and order on polling day, February 7. Additional security measures include:
- Use of CCTV cameras, AI-enabled surveillance, and drones for monitoring.
- Facial recognition systems to prevent any unlawful activity.
Seizures and Preventive Actions
From January 7 to February 2, Delhi Police made unprecedented seizures and preventive arrests as part of their Model Code of Conduct (MCC) enforcement:
- Cash worth ₹11.24 crore was seized.
- 1,08,258 liters of liquor, valued at ₹3.6 crore, were confiscated.
- 1,315 FIRs were registered, and 1,353 individuals were arrested.
Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Southern Range, SK Jain, highlighted the remarkable efficiency during this election cycle, stating that the last 24 days saw record-breaking preventive actions and seizures, surpassing those during the 2020 Assembly and 2024 Parliamentary elections.
Poll Day Preparations
Authorities have conducted flag marches across multiple areas to reassure citizens of their safety and encourage active participation in the democratic process. Voting for the Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 5, with results set to be announced on February 8.
