Kaithal Youth's American Dream Shattered, Alleges Rs 42 Lakh Fraud by Agent

Kaithal, February 5 – The lure of a better future in the United States ended in detention and deportation for a Kaithal youth, Sandeep, who now finds himself back home after spending nearly a year in a US detention center. His American dream turned into a nightmare after allegedly being defrauded of Rs 42 lakh by a travel agent.

The Journey via Donkey Route

Sandeep recounted that he sold two acres of land to finance his migration via the Donkey Route, an illegal and perilous pathway used by human smugglers. His month-long journey led him to California in 2023, where he initially secured a temporary visa. However, when he appeared for an immigration hearing, he was detained by US authorities and held for nearly a year before being deported on February 1, 2025.

Now back in Kaithal, Sandeep expresses deep regret and frustration, feeling that he was misled by the agent who promised him a safe and legal settlement in the US. He has urged authorities to take strict action against fraudulent immigration agents, hoping that others will not suffer a similar fate.

Authorities Promise Action

The Kaithal administration has taken note of Sandeep’s allegations and assured a thorough investigation. Law enforcement officials have stated that if a formal complaint is filed, the agent in question will be subject to legal action.

Rising Cases of Immigration Fraud

Sandeep’s case is not an isolated incident. With thousands of Indian youths falling prey to human smugglers and fraudulent agents, illegal immigration has become a growing concern. Many aspiring migrants risk their life savings, safety, and even their lives in search of better opportunities abroad, often ending up in detention centers or facing deportation.

Authorities have repeatedly warned against illegal migration and advised people to pursue legal channels to avoid such distressing consequences.
