Amritsar (National Times)– Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal held a press conference today after meeting with Indian nationals who were recently deported from the United States at Amritsar airport.
“Everyone is doing well, and their paperwork is in progress,” Dhaliwal reported. He highlighted the urgency of the situation and called on the Central government, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to engage in discussions with US President Donald Trump to resolve the issue.
“This is a critical matter between our two nations,” he emphasized. “PM Modi claims to be friends with President Trump and even campaigned for him during the US elections. It’s essential that this international issue be addressed directly at the negotiating table.”
Dhaliwal expressed concern for the Indian nationals, noting the anxiety surrounding deportation and imprisonment. “The Prime Minister should act as a shield for our citizens who face this looming threat,” he said.
He also shared insights from his conversations with the returnees, stating that all are healthy and had been provided with food and tea upon arrival. Many reported that they had traveled to the US through agents based primarily in Dubai, with some using routes through England or possessing visas for Canada.
“Most of the agents involved in these cases are from Dubai,” Dhaliwal noted, highlighting the complexities of their journeys.
In closing, Dhaliwal reiterated his appeal for PM Modi to meet with President Trump to find a viable solution for the deported Indian nationals, underscoring the need for diplomatic intervention to protect citizens facing such challenges abroad.
