New Delhi [India], February 6 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reassured the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the government closely monitors the welfare of Indian students, especially in regions experiencing tension or violence.
He emphasized that student welfare is a key concern for the government, stating, “The welfare of students is something very close to our heart.”
Addressing concerns about the safety of Indian students abroad amid escalating conflicts, Jaishankar said, “The government diligently monitors the welfare of Indian students and provides alerts in case of potential violence. We are always prepared to operate flights if necessary.”
He noted, “We keep track of the number of students in various countries and closely monitor their welfare. In situations of tension or violence, we alert students as we did during the crisis in Ukraine. We are always ready to take further steps, including organizing flights for their rescue if required.”
Jaishankar also mentioned that all embassies and ambassadors have been directed to prioritize student safety. “We have been very responsive; all embassies and ambassadors have been instructed to pay special attention to the welfare of students. I want to assure everyone that the welfare of students is a top priority for the government. Every embassy today is proactive in this regard,” he added.
The comments come in the context of escalating tensions in the region due to the Israel-Palestine conflict and ongoing issues related to the Russia-Ukraine war, which has now entered its third year since it began on February 24, 2022.
